Groud Tackle
Dec 5, 2019
After our trip around Vancouver Island, one thing was clear: our ground tackle could use some serious improvement.
When we purchased the boat, it had 300 feet of very rusty ¼" chain and a CQR anchor. A number of times, backing on a reasonable scope and would just plow the anchor across the bottom of the anchorage. We upgraded to a 45 pound Mantus anchor, Mantus swivel, and 300 feet of new five eighth inch chain. This turned out to be a very good decision.
Our first time the boat noticably pitched down then up as the anchor sunk into the mud. With gusts of 25 knots that night, we never slept better.
